| Mosaic inlay rendition of a traditional four-ring Japanese family crest design. Family crests are taken more seriously there than in this country, where there is a lack of strong cultural value or tradition of lineage. Here, some 14,200 pieces of dyed wood are inlaid into bookmatched Alaskan yellow cedar. Each half of this plate has some 400 grain lines, each of which represents a year of growth. This wood was alive when Shakespeare was born. |
